We are amid one of the worst mosquito outbreaks in several years. This is causing most of us to itch like crazy. If it is causing us to itch like crazy, then our children will certainly feel the urge to itch.
What will happen if I or my children itch their mosquito bites? Scratching your mosquito bites will cause your skin to release a substance call histamine. Histamine causes more itching and swelling which will cause you to itch and scratch repeatedly.
Another great reason not to scratch is that it will cause a secondary bacterial infection. There is a bacteria that is present on our skin naturally and when combined with the natural environment will get into the skin forming a barrier. This barrier is caused by the inflammation of the skin due to scratching.
Since mosquitoes are attracted to the scent of our skin and the smell of our breath, it is inevitable that we will get a bite at some time or another. After you have been bitten you should immediately place an ice cube on it. This will reduce the swelling which causes us to scratch. You can use a hydrocortisone cream which is the most famous remedy. You can get it from any local drug store. If you would prefer a natural remedy, you can use oatmeal water mixed with yogurt(plain). I would personally prefer to just make a trip to the drug store or be sure to have the cream at home. If you are looking for other products, just make sure that it contains menthol as this is known to soothe the skin.
In conclusion, mosquito or any bug bite can become very annoying. This is just one of the ways that we try to educate our children. Children can be educated in several different ways. One of the resources that can be used to educate them is quality childrens books.
